On June 3rd, people from across the country who believe we can do more to save lives from gun violence to do one simple thing: Wear Orange.
Following the tragic shooting death of Hadiya Pendelton in 2013, just one week after she performed at President Obama and then-Vice President Biden’s second inaugural parade, Hadiya’s friends chose to wear orange to honor her life and raise awareness about gun violence. While orange had traditionally been worn by hunters to protect themselves in the woods, wearing orange has come to serve as the defining national symbol of the gun violence prevention movement.
This year, National Gun Violence Awareness Day is June 3, and kicks off Wear Orange Weekend on June 4-5.
